Make a wonderful scarecrow decoration to welcome in fall, but there is a fun surprise — A snowman on the back to celebrate winter! Two crafts in one!

Instructions

Supplies

1. Sand edges of boards. Save sandpaper

2. Paint all sides of one of the 12” 1x4 board black. Use minimal paint for a rustic look and reduced drying time.

3. Put on gloves to stain all sides of the remaining 12” 1x4 board. Use rag to apply stain, use sparingly.

4. Stain 1/4 of the top portion of the 1x8 board on only one side and on narrow edges. Remove gloves and throw away.

5. Paint reverse side of top portion of 1x8 board black, keeping paint thin. Let dry.

6. Paint remaining surfaces, including narrow edges of 1x8 board with white chalk paint. Let dry.

7. Paint front and sides of smallest triangle orange. Let dry.

8. Paint front and sides of larger triangle white, orange and yellow. Let dry.

9. Once paint and stain on 12” 1x4 boards are dry, use artist brush and white paint to paint letters on the boards.

11. When paint on 18” 1x8 board is dry, use pencil to sketch eyes and mouth on both sides of board. You may want to position noses and 12" "hat pieces" on board first to ensure proper placement.

12. Use artist brush and black paint to trace and fill in eyes and mouths.

13. Screw in eye screws in side of 18” board, approximately where the white paint and black paint or stain meet.

14. Tie twine through both eye screws.

15. Use sandpaper to rough edges of black 12” board and painted side of 18” board.

16. Use air nailer to attach noses, and 12” boards.

17. Touch up any paint after nailing.
